Cesare Pugni (Genova, 31.V.1802 – San Pietroburgo, 26.I.1870) fu preso giovanissimo sotto l’ala protettrice di Peter Winter che lo aiutò ad entrare nel Conservatorio Reale di musica di Milano. Studiò composizione e contrappunto con Bonifazio Asioli, violino con Alessandro Rolla e teoria con Carlo Soliva. Fu compositore, autore di balletti, opere e musica strumentale, ed anche un valente pianista e un virtuoso violinista… dalla prefazione
