Niccolò Jommelli nacque ad Aversa, nel regno di Napoli. all'età di sedici anni si recò poi a Napoli dove fu ammesso come allievo al Conservatorio di Sant'Onofrio a Porta Capuana, dove ricevette lezioni da Durante.
