La rosa delle Alpi è in realtà il nome popolare di due varietà del rododendro molto comuni sulle Alpi. Il nome è utilizzato in musica per vari brani ed esiste anche canzone popolare, molto diffusa fra i Cori alpini in varie armonizzazioni, che non è utilizzata da Hugues. La Rose des Alpes, infatti, è un brano originale anche se, stranamente, la cosa non è sottolineata nel titolo. E’ anche insolita la mancanza di un dedicatario, cosa che farebbe pensare ad una composizione di poco conto. In realtà il brano, pur nella sua semplicità di fondo, è scritto molto bene nel classico stile di un Morceau de Salon brillante che deve valorizzare le possibilità vituosistiche del flauto.

The “rosa delle alpi” is actually the popular name of two varieties of rhododendron very common in the Alps. The name is used in music for various pieces and there is also a popular song, very popular among Alpine choirs in various harmonizations, which is not used by Hugues. In fact, The Alpine Rose is an original piece even if, strangely, this is not underlined in the title. The lack of a dedicatee is also unusual, which would make one think of a composition of little importance. In reality, the piece, despite its basic simplicity, is very well written in the classic style of a brilliant Morceau de Salon which must enhance the vituosity of the flute.
